Rangers fans are hooked on deludamol and only place they beat Celtic is on their wee fantasy island – Hotline

Rangers fans reckon Brendan Rodgers is set for a horror sequel at Celtic Park.

But Hoops punters hit back and suggested it’s their rivals who should be hiding behind the couch as the Godfather is back. Michael Edmonds, Northampton, said: “Caller John Bruce said Rodgers’ return will finish up being a horror movie as the sequel is never as good as the original. Let me remind him that the classic movie The Godfather won three Oscars, and it’s sequel doubled that tally and won six.”

Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: “In 40 years supporting Celtic I have never seen Rangers fans as gutted and in fear as with this Rodgers return. This is a better manager with two top five finishes and an FA cup returning to a much better squad than first time. Last year was purely down to financial trouble at Leicester. Add in £50m and guaranteed Champions League football and it is obvious why the Celtic fans are buzzing with anticipation.” John Stuart, Blantyre, said: “The Rangers supporters on the Hotline have brightened up my morning. Celtic have consistently turned them over and will only get stronger yet these guys somehow think they will turn the tables on the treble winning champions next season having arguably lost their three or four best players and replaced them with bargain basement signings. Celtic have another proven winner at the helm and not a showman who talks a good game but has delivered hee haw.”

John McCrae, Twechar, said: “The Rangers fans slating Rodgers, saying he has not achieved anything. They should look at their own manager and see what he has done and won – nothing.” Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: “Rangers fans are beginning to realise that their team of players no one has heard of and serial losers with a manager who has also achieved nothing are not going to compete against a Celtic team who will get better again this season." But Alfie Mullin, London, hit back and said: “These Celtic fans saying Rangers fans are running scared of Celtic must be having a laugh. With regards to them having a Rolls Royce manager, I wonder how many Rolls Royce managers get their team relegated?”

Martin Baird, Glasgow, said: “The comment In yesterday’s Hotline suggesting that Rangers shouldn’t be celebrating their Europa League Final a year ago as a success as they lost made me laugh.

"This is from Celtic fans whose club still have a Seville Suite and Seville fans wall at their ground and have countless books, DVDs and even a stage show about their lost final over 20 years ago. To be fair they’ve nothing more recent in Europe to celebrate have they?”

Alan Flett emailed: “Is there any truth in the rumour all Celtic matches will be shown on UK Gold? They’ve got the comedy dream team of Buck Rodgers, supported by Harry ‘clueless’ and the chuckle brothers. They used to say it was Firhill for thrills, now it’s Celtic Park for laughs.”

Rangers are chasing several targets but Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “What a carry on, Rangers again trying to low ball Feyenoord for Danilo. They’ve tried to do similar with Dessers. It's such a poor way to conduct business and not the way to win the league.”

Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, said: “Someone will have to explain to me why every player linked with Rangers get all the superlatives under the sun yet they cannot get a game for their clubs. They are either out on loan or free transfers, so I am utterly bewildered.”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Rangers bargain basement hunt for a striker shows their ambitions. If they want to compete with the big boys or even the Bhoys they need to stop mucking around and splash the cash.”
