Premier League’s Nottingham Forest Signs USMNT Keeper Matt Turner From Arsenal

U.S. men’s national team keeper Matt Turner became the latest American star to make a summer move, trading Arsenal for Nottingham Forest.

The 29-year-old joins the Premier League side on a four-year deal in a transfer reportedly worth £10 million ($12.8 million).

Turner has made 32 caps for the U.S. in his international career and was the USMNT’s starting keeper for all four of its matches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He joins Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, Brenden Aaronson and Tim Weah as U.S. stars to seal a transfer in the current window.

“It feels great to be here,” Turner said in a statement. “It’s something I’m really looking forward to, it’s a great challenge and a great step in my career. When I heard that there was interest to bring me here, it just felt right for my family, it felt right when my agent spoke to me about it and it feels like the right move for me right now.

“The manager and the backroom staff, everything about the club has a little sparkle to it. It’s felt right from the start and I’m happy it’s got done. I’m looking forward to making a connection with my teammates, the fans and the city. I’m grateful to be here and can’t wait to get things started.”

The New Jersey native joined Arsenal last summer from the New England Revolution, but didn’t manage to feature for the Gunners in the Premier League last season in a $6 million deal. As the club’s No. 2 option in goal, Turner featured in seven matches across all competitions, including five Europa League appearances.

However, on Saturday in the Premier League opener, Turner has the chance to line up across from Arsenal in his first-ever Premier League start.
