Popular cycling event Sportive Kinross has now raised over £80,000 for CHAS

A popular cycling event has now toppled the £80,000 mark in aid to Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

The hosting of this year’s Sportive Kinross gathered another £8550 for the ever-growing and impressive cash total.

Run by volunteers from Kinross Cycling Club, the Sportive is one of Scotland’s most popular cycling events and has been supporting CHAS since 2011.

Riders from the event recently gathered at Rachel House children’s hospice to hand over this year’s cheque wearing new jerseys specially designed by a CHAS family in partnership with Kinross High School.

Activities staff at Rachel House facilitated a home craft session to produce a logo with Isla Riddell from Muckhart, who is supported by CHAS.

The logo was then handed over to the Craft, Design and Technology department of Kinross High School, who completed the overall jersey design.

Design student Rory Maddocks, a keen cyclist himself, played a key role in the design process, incorporating graphics created by Isla.

Isla’s parents, Marion and Iain Riddell, who are also keen cyclists and members of Kinross Cycling Club, were present at the cheque handover at Rachel House.

Lyndsay Stobie, Community Fundraiser at CHAS, said: “We owe Sportive Kinross a debt of gratitude for everything they’ve done and continue to do to raise money for CHAS.

“Many cyclists choose to sponsor CHAS but the charity also receives £6 from every entry fee. As an in-demand event, registration often fills up quickly so it was great to see so many riders braving the elements for a good spin.

“It’s always a lively occasion for our volunteers to get involved in too. We had a team of 10 helping out with registration, manning the feeding stations and cheering the cyclists over the finish line so our sincere thanks go to them too.

“All the proceeds go towards the sustainability of care that CHAS gives to so many babies, children, young people and their families, whether that be dedicated nurse care, a week of respite, a simple meal or a hydrotherapy session.”

Entries are now open for next year’s event which will take place on April 2, 2023 with Kinross Cycling Club putting aside 20 free places.
