Police presence in Jamestown linked to "non-recent abuse" investigation

Police have said that an investigation into “non-recent abuse” in Alexandria is behind their presence in Jamestown.

Last week a mobile police station was moved into Davidson Road, with residents also noting a number of additional police vehicles on the site - which is near the flats overlooking the playing fields.

When the Lennox Herald attended this afternoon (Monday) police were seen placing items into clear plastic bags, and photographing gardens and lock-ups to the rear of the flats.

Residents said that they had been told to expect the police to remain on scene "for at least a week", but that officers had remained tight-lipped about what they were investigating.

When contacted by the Lennox on Saturday morning, a Police Scotland spokesperson said that it was in relation to an ongoing investigation.

They added: “Officers are investigating a report of non-recent abuse in Alexandria. Enquiries are ongoing.”
