PlayStation State of Play: All 16 games at the show and top trailers

Sony mapped out what 2024 will look like for PlayStation gamers during its first State of Play event of the year.

As promised, 15 games were shown, from 10pm on January 31, and another teased. If you’re gagging for more info on the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, we have bad news. It will get its own reveal show later on February 6.

However, here are all 16 of the games, new and already known, at State of Play. We’ll dig into some of the highlights later.

  • Dave the Diver (PlayStation 5 version announcement, April 2024)
  • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (game announcement, 2025)
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 (trailer, March 22)
  • Foamstars (trailer, February 6)
  • Helldivers 2 (trailer, February 8)
  • Hideo Kojima new project (game announcement, TBC)
  • Judas (trailer, 2025)
  • Legendary Tales (PSVR2 version announced, February 8)
  • Metro Awakening (VR game announcement, 2024)
  • Rise of the Ronin (trailer, March 22)
  • Silent Hill: The Short Message (available now)
  • Silent Hill 2 (trailer, 2024)
  • Sonic X Shadow Generations (game announcement, Autumn 2024)
  • Stellar Blade (deep dive demo video, April)
  • Until Dawn (remake announcement, 2024)
  • V Rising (PlayStation 5 version announcement, 2024)
  • Zenless Zone Zero (PS5 version announcement, 2024)

You could argue for hours about which are the most important games here, but let’s take a look at few of the contenders.

First up, there was the two big Silent Hill reveals. This was a key PlayStation brand in years past, but there hasn’t been a main line console entry for more than a decade, the last being 2012’s Silent Hill: Downpour.

Silent Hill 2 is a remake of the most-loved game in the entire series, and it has been prefaced by a playable teaser PlayStation 5 owners can try right now, Silent Hill: The Short Message

It can’t help but bring up comparisons to P.T., probably the most legendary game teaser of all time – itself a sort of demo for a Silent Hill project that never panned out. Silent Hill: The Short Message is a first-person horror game that lasts around 90 minutes, according to YouTube walkthroughs. Or maybe longer if you spend a while hiding behind the sofa.

We also got a look at the main event, with a combat trailer for Silent Hill 2. In its remade guise, the blasting and thwacking actions looks quite a lot like that of the recent Resident Evil remakes.

The other big duo of game announcements came from another PlayStation icon, Hide Kojima, the auteur game creator behind the Metal Gear Solid series.

First up is Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, sequel to the futuristic sci-fi Evri delivery driver simulator, but one where you deliver packages on foot rather than in a van.

There was a whopping 10-minute look at this 2025 game that, in classic Kojima fashion, is largely a big cut-scene. Still, there are some early gameplay snippets that look quite beautiful, complete with dramatic floodwater and landslide scenes. Norman Reedus returns as the lead character, Sam.

Kojima Productions also announced an “action-espionage” game that is currently in pre-production, with work due to begin proper after Death Stranding 2 is released. We’ll be waiting a few years for that one, then.

Closer to the present, Rise of Ronin got a new trailer, and is one of the key upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusives. It’s a third-person action adventure that looks a bit like an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan, but with a greater focus on sword fighting.

Not too long to wait for this one, as it’s due on March 22.

PSVR 2 user? Metro Awakening was the biggie for VR gamers during the State of Play show. It comes not from 4A Games, which made the main Metro games, but from VR specialist Vertigo Studios Amsterdam.

That team made top VR titles like Arizona Sunshine 2 and The 7th Guest, meaning Metro Awakening should (with any luck) be better than the recent disappointing VR remake of cult classic console shooter Bulletstorm. Awakening acts as a prequel to the mainline Metro games.

Stellar Blade is our final key PlayStation exclusive. It’s due out on April 26.

You are Eve, a lady warrior who jumps about the place in skin-tight shiny Latex, fighting an alien force that has invaded Earth.

This game has been shown off before, but looks to be an impressive technical showpiece for PlayStation 5 owners who are down for its Bayonetta-inspired style.

If you’d like to give the entire 45-minute-odd show a watch, it’s available now on YouTube.
