The National Galleries of Scotland has submitted plans to built a new visitor attraction, gallery and café in the north of Edinburgh.
The land west of Madelvic House, Granton Park Avenue, has been earmarked for the new facility and several visuals of how the site would look have been released.
Two separate planning applications have been submitted to Edinburgh Council. The first application is focussed on delivering The Art Works, an area which will enable the public to "explore, discover and engage with Scotland's national art collection."

The Art Works building would cover almost 12,000 sqm and takes the form of four linear blocks of varying lengths aligned north-south connection by an internal street running east-west.
Each of the four linear blocks have pitched roofs, with an approximate ridge height of 11.3m, and an eaves height of 7m.4.10 The building is positioned on the site to complete the block structure on Waterfront Avenue and respect the historic building line of the former Madelvic factory complex.
The second planning application seeks full planning permission for redevelopment of the southern portion of the site, referred to as “Site 2”, comprising a section of the north/south active travel route through the site. This section links West Granton Road with the southern boundary of Site 1.
According to the National Galleries of Scotland, the main objectives of The Art Works are to Enable the national collection to be stored to the museum standard, allow the national collection to expand for at least the next 20-years and improve conservation facilities as well as facilities for researchers.
A planning statement added: "In addition to its core function, The Art Works has been designed to include significant and varied space for public and community uses, these include rooms for viewing the national collection of art, study spaces, a community studio, further education/learning rooms and a community support space.
"These functions would be supported by ancillary spaces such as basic catering facilities and the ability to host external pop-up café kiosks."
