Phillip Schofield’s Soap Awards replacement ‘revealed’ as ITV star tipped to host

Phillip Schofield confirmed he would no longer be hosting the British Soap Awards after admitting to having an affair with a younger colleague, but who is set to replace the former This Morning presenter?

It appears ITV will look within their batch of presenters as soap stars await to find out whether they'll be taking home a gong.

The Masked Singer host Joel Dommett is at the top of the list to replace Phillip, according to bookmakers William Hill.

He is now 2/1 with the bookmaker to be given the role at the awards, which are being held in Manchester on Saturday before later airing on ITV on June, 6.

Alan Carr at 3/1 and Bradley Walsh at 11/2 are next in line as those most likely to stand in for the disgraced presenter, after ITV confirmed the ceremony was going ahead as planned despite last week’s events.

William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Following Phillip Schofield’s departure from ITV last week, we make Joel Dommett the favourite to host this year’s British Soap Awards in Manchester on Saturday.

“Dommett is the 2/1 frontrunner with us to be awarded hosting honours for Saturday’s ceremony having impressed in other ITV programmes throughout the years.

“Should the baton fall to someone else, Alan Carr (3/1) and Bradley Walsh (11/2) are the other most likely candidates in the betting to host in Schofield’s absence.”

After hosting the ceremony for 17 years, Phillip announced he would be parting ways with ITV and therefore stepping down from the awards.

He said: "I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.

"I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me."

"I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it," he confirmed in a statement to the Daily Mail.
