Patsy Kensit teases future for EastEnders character ahead of Lola's death

Patsy Kensit has teased the future for her character Emma Harding on EastEnders.

The London-born actress joined the BBC One soap as Emma, the mother of terminally ill Lola's mum, with her arrival causing quite an "explosion" for the family. Amid Lola's terminal diagnosis, Emma has been desperate to try and help the family - but Lola doesn't want any of her financial support and initially refused the money that was dropped off at her doorstep.

Emma's time in Walford was expected to just be a short stint - but Patsy has opened up about the possibility of staying on the soap.

Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain today, host Ben Shephard told Patsy: "We would love to see her stay or come back and establish herself a bit more in the Square," as she revealed it wasn't a complete no for her or the show bosses.

"I only finished shooting three or four weeks ago so - that starts up now and I was only ever asked to come in for those two blocks of shooting. It's not up to me [if I come back] - but who knows?" Patsy added of her future on the programme.

"I had a blast on the show and I'm so grateful to everybody there. I have to say again, Danielle - who plays Lola - is just incredible and Jamie - who plays her husband Jay - we have a lot of scenes where we're arguing and he's the funniest guy I've ever worked with."

When her arrival was announced, Patsy dubbed the role a "dream" for her.

"I’m so excited to be visiting Walford for this storyline. It has always been a dream to appear in EastEnders. The cast, producers, writers and crew have been wonderful, and I’ve had a ball," she explained.

EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw added at the time: "We’re delighted to welcome the wonderfully talented Patsy to the EastEnders family. She’s the perfect fit to take on the role of such a long-awaited character that we know very little about.

"Softly spoken and measured, on one hand Emma is the very opposite of her long lost daughter, Lola. But on the other, there’s a striking resemblance; successful, the capacity to hold her own – if she says she’ll do something, she’ll do it – and she’s a fighter, just like Lola. Having spent a lifetime apart, Emma becomes desperate to make up for lost time."

He shared: "Her secret sadness and guilt are never far from the surface. The burden of losing her daughter has never left her, but can she find the courage to tell her shocking truth and reconnect with Lola, or will it come too little, too late? Patsy’s portrayal is bound to set off fireworks in Walford and cause havoc for the Mitchell household."
