Opening times for the big family attractions in Wales and beyond during the King's coronation weekend

If you're not staying in to watch the King's coronation or are wondering how to spend bank holiday Monday and keep the children entertained there are plenty of attractions staying open in Wales and the UK. Some have slightly different opening hours to normal but there is still plenty of fun to be had.

From museums to theme parks to outdoor activities, you won't be stuck for ideas during the extra bank holiday weekend, taking place from Saturday, May 6 to Monday, May 8. You can read more about the three bank holidays in May 2023 here.

Bodnant Garden

A National Trust gem named one of the most Instagrammable gardens in the world is Bodnant Garden in Conwy where you can see an amazing array of beautiful plants and flowers. Open from 9:30am to 5pm every day, including the coronation bank holiday weekend, the garden is more than 150 years old. For more beautiful Welsh gardens you should discover, read our article here.

Folly Farm

Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire is open for the coronation weekend with the same opening times as normal, 10am to 5pm. At the farm children can meet the animals, enjoy 17 different rides at the vintage fairground and much more.

Zip World

Take an exhilarating ride on a zip line (Zip World)

The Zip World sites in north and south Wales are remaining open during the weekend and bank holiday. Thrill seekers will be able to enjoy zipwires, high ropes, rides and even underground golf as well as much more, across Wales.

Penrhyn Quarry is open from 8am to 6pm, Llechwedd is open from 10am to 5pm, Fforest is open from 9am to 5.30pm and Tower is open from 10am to 4pm.

National Waterfront Museum

The National Waterfront Museum in Swansea is open from 10am to 5pm during the King's Coronation bank holiday. The National Waterfront Museum tells the story of industry and innovation in Wales, now and over the last 300 years.

Go Ape

For a tree-top adventure that is sure to thrill, Go Ape in Margam Park is home to the UK’s biggest Tarzan Swing. Go Ape is remaining open for the coronation week and bank holiday and to book tickets and for more information visit the Go Ape website.

Swansea Bay Rider Land Train

The Swansea Bay Rider Land Train is running during the King's coronation. Adults and children alike can enjoy amazing views of Swansea Bay from the 72-seater land train that trundles along the Swansea prom. You can read more about the land train and other attractions in Swansea, here.

St Fagans National Museum of History

St Fagans National Museum of History is not a museum to be missed and will be open from 10am to 5pm during the coronation weekend and bank holiday. Since 1948, more than 40 original buildings from different historical periods have been re-erected in the 100-acre parkland, among them houses, a farm, a school, a chapel and a splendid Workmen's Institute allowing you to go back in time and visit historical Wales.

Oakwood Theme Park

Oakwood is for the thrill seekers (Western Mail)

Wales' largest adventure park for thrill-seekers, Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire, with rides such as ‘Speed’ and ‘Vertigo’ which is the UK’s tallest sky-swing, is open during the coronation weekend from 10am to 4.30pm, with the rides opening at 10.30am.

Welsh Mountain Zoo

If your child is an animal lover then head to the Welsh Mountain Zoo at Colwyn Bay. There are more than 100 species of different animals to see and the zoo is open during the coronation weekend.

The Welsh Mountain Zoo is open for its normal opening hours from 9.30am to 6pm. The Welsh Mountain Zoo is the oldest zoo in Wales and there are plenty of animals to learn about. You can book your tickets here.

National Museum Cardiff

The city centre museum is open, and there are plenty of exhibitions for children to explore. From dinosaurs and woolly mammoths to some of Europe’s best collections of art, there’s something on offer for everyone.

Llanelli Wetland Centre

The Llanelli Wetland Centre is open during the King's coronation. You can enjoy the nature reserve, visit the flamingos and spot the gorgeous plants.

Ninja Warrior - Swansea and Cardiff

There are Ninja Warrior sites in Cardiff and Swansea (Rob Browne)

Both Ninja Warrior sites in Wales - Cardiff and Swansea - are open for the King's Coronation. The Cardiff site will be open from 12pm to 8pm and the Swansea site from 12pm to 7pm.

Plantasia

Plantasia in Swansea, where you can step through a giant tree into a real living rainforest, is open during the King's coronation bank holiday weekend. You will see creepy crawlies, a 12ft python, meerkats, crocodiles and more. Plantasia will be open from 10am to 5pm.

Big Pit National Coal Museum

Big Pit is a real coal mine and one of Britain's leading mining museums. You can enjoy a multi-media tour of a modern coal mine with a virtual miner in the Mining Galleries, exhibitions in the Pithead Baths and Historic colliery buildings. Big Pit will be open from 10am to 5pm over the King's coronation weekend and bank holiday.

Outside of Wales

Many major UK attractions are also staying open during the King's coronation bank holiday weekend.

Legoland

If you have a child who loves Lego then Legoland is the place to go. Here you can enjoy everything Lego from rides to impressive Lego structures. Legoland will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, May 6 and 10am to 5pm on Sunday, May 7 and Monday, May 8.

Alton Towers

For thrill-seekers head to Alton Towers. Located in Stoke some of the UK's biggest rollercoasters and plenty of other great rides can be enjoyed. Alton Towers will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, May 6, 10am to 5pm on Sunday, May 7 and 10am to 4pm on Monday, May 8.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is open all bank holiday long (Channel 5)

One of the most iconic sights and attractions in the UK is Stonehenge. How the mystical rocks were put in place still remains a mystery and many visitors go to Stonehenge every year. Stonehenge will be open from 9.30am to 5pm every day over the coronation weekend.

Blackpool Tower

There is so much to enjoy in Blackpool, including the Blackpool Tower. The Blackpool Tower is staying open during the coronation weekend. Blackpool Tower will be open from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, May 6, 10am to 5pm on Sunday, May 7 and 10am to 4pm on Monday, May 8.

West Midlands Safari Park

If you want to see some animals this coronation weekend you can head to West Midlands Safari Park in Worcestershire. West Midlands Safari Park is open every day of the Coronation weekend and the bank holiday from 9.30am to 5pm.
