Opening date announced for new Cardiff Flight Club darts bar

The opening date for Cardiff's new "social darts" bar has been revealed. Bar chain Flight Club announced last year that they were opening a new venue in the capital after enjoying success elsewhere in the UK.

The bar's unique concept sees the classic pub game given a "supercharged" modern makeover combined with food and free-flowing cocktails, with customers promised a "spectacular bar, electric atmosphere and mind-blowing experience". The new venue will open on the popular St Mary Street, taking over the 400 square metre site formerly occupied by Beanfreaks health food store and Creams dessert bar. Work started on transforming the huge four-storey building earlier this year with the venue teased to be opening in the autumn, but now the exact opening date has been confirmed.

The darts bar will open on October 7 and will become Flight Club's first venue in Wales and its tenth in the UK. The chain already has bars in London, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, Birmingham and Cheltenham.

The huge venue will have 15 'social dart' playing areas and four bars, as well as a massive roof terrace with space for over 200 guests and bookable huts. Groups of up to 20 can book out their own playing area equipped with a board with tracking technology and an instant scoring system.

Games are designed with beginners in mind, so whether you're an arrows expert or a complete novice, everyone has the chance to win. Tournament technology can also connect over 100 players within the venue, while instant scoring eliminates any need for counting and makes matches more fast-paced and exciting.

The bar aims to "blend the nostalgia and warmth of a pub with the energy and excitement of a fairground in its atmosphere and decor". A range of tasty food and drink including paddleboard pizzas and show-stopping cocktails are also on offer, while a brunch social will be held between Thursday and Sunday every week.

The St Mary Street venue will also be used for larger events, with the bar catering to up to 550 people. Multiple oches can be combined to create hire spaces ideal for celebrations for between 37 and 550 people, with a 'Flight Club Gamesmaster' on hand to run a tournament and present medals to the winners. If groups are smaller than six customers, they are paired with another group to "give them a taster of what social darts has to offer".

It is expected that the bar will create up to 35 full-time jobs. It will be open until 12.30am between Sunday and Wednesday and until 1.30am between Thursday and Saturday.

Announcing the opening, Flight Club CEO and co-founder Steve Moore said: “We are delighted to reveal that we are opening the doors to Flight Club Cardiff in October! It is set to be our biggest venue yet, and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone up to the throwline.

“Cardiff has already got an incredible hospitality scene that we’re thrilled to be joining, bringing something new to the neighbourhood and contributing to a thriving night life scene." You can find out more information and book your spot at the oche here.
