Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie, and 'X-Men' producer Simon Kinberg are teaming up for a feature adaptation of the comic book character Avengelyne, created by Rob Liefeld, co-creator of Deadpool. Wilde, known for her directorial work on films like 'Booksmart' and 'Don't Worry Darling,' is set to direct the project. Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, along with partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara, will be producing the film. Kinberg, who has worked on the 'X-Men' franchise, will also serve as a producer.

The film project is currently seeking a studio or streaming platform to call home, with the team planning to pitch the concept in the coming weeks. Avengelyne is a character described as an angel who battles evil forces, often confronting demons and monsters. Liefeld introduced Avengelyne in 1995, and previous attempts to bring the character to the big screen have not materialized.

In 2013, Gina Carano was attached to star in an adaptation, and in 2016, Paramount reportedly acquired rights for a version from filmmaker Akiva Goldsman. LuckyChap, riding high on the success of 'Barbie,' the top-grossing film of 2023 and an eight-time Academy Award nominee, is in demand. The company is currently working on Wilde's upcoming Christmas comedy 'Naughty' for Universal Pictures.

LuckyChap's portfolio includes the Oscar-winning dark comedy 'I, Tonya,' as well as Emerald Fennell's projects 'Promising Young Woman' and 'Saltburn.' The company recently backed the Sundance hit 'My Old Ass,' which was acquired by Amazon MGM Studios for $15 million.
