Odeon Cinema to close in Ayr as company admits venue 'no longer viable'

Ayr's Odeon cinema is to close after bosses tonight insisted the venue was "no longer viable."

In a message sent to customers, the company said that "following a thorough assessment of all available options," they had taken the decision to shut in the town on June 5.

The firm said it was "looking to secure jobs for as many team members as possible in one of our other local cinemas."

The Odeon's other Ayrshire venue in Kilmarnock will not be affected by the move to close.

The news has been met with dismay by regular users of the facility tonight.

One told Ayrshire Live: "It's just the latest hammer blow for the town, which is becoming a really sorry place now.

"You only have to look at Ayr Central recently losing the likes of Ernest Jones and Clarks to see the way things are rapidly declining.

"There is quickly becoming nothing left in the town and something should be done quickly because it's only going to get worse."
