Nottingham Forest eye relegated goalkeeper after Tottenham transfer blow

Nottingham Forest have reportedly reignited their interest in Sampdoria goalkeeper Emil Audero after missing out on another target to Tottenham Hotspur.

Forest were linked with a move for Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli, but the stopper instead joined Tottenham this week for £17million. As a result, the Reds may have turned their attentions back to Audero.

The 26-year-old was linked with a move to Forest in the January transfer window, before the club instead signed Keylor Navas on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. Since then, he has continued to be linked with a move to the City Ground.

According to Italian outlet Il Mattino, the goalkeeper could be set to leave struggling Sampdoria for £8.5m this summer following their relegation to Serie B. Juventus legend Anrea Pirlo is their new manager, but he might not be able to keep hold of his number one.

If Forest do make a move for Audero, they are expected to face competition from Napoli for his signature. He has previously been linked to Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Head coach Steve Cooper is on the hunt for a new goalkeeper after Navas and Dean Henderson saw their loans come to an end. Forest are keen to re-sign Dean Henderson, but Man United hold the cards over his future.

Audero was a rare bright spark for Sampdoria as they suffered relegation, making 84 saves in 25 league games as he looked to help his team avoid the inevitable.
