North Shields café Barista Boho announces new chef with fresh menu and summer events

A new chef at a North Tyneside community hub is shaking up the menu in a move set to please its regular customers.

Barista Boho in North Shields has appointed Paul Scott as its new head chef and, as he heads up the kitchen, he has plenty ideas of how to built upon its reputation. The community-focused café-bar in Saville Street, near the Fish Quay, is known for the likes of its barista coffee, craft beers and cool vibes but it is now keen to perk up business with a new menu and an upcoming programme of entertainment which could now cater for everything from cocktail masterclasses to music nights.

"Everything has changed," said a spokeswoman for the venue and the menu overhaul comes following feedback from its loyal customers. Paul, who has years of experience on the culinary scene, is launching dishes which include fresh and healthy options, such as small plates - offering the likes of calamari, halloumi chips, paprika prawns and Mongolian meatballs - and 'Buddha bowls': specially-created recipes of mixd salads, cous cous hummus and dressings with a a pick of smoked salmon, chicken or tofu.

Options for diners will include evening specials such as home-made sweet chill Scotch eggs, black pudding sausage rolls, savoury doughnuts and frittatas. And the café is also set to open itself up to a range of events including poetry and open-mic nights; writers’ workshops; art sessions; children’s mosaic workshops and photography courses.

Karen Weech, co-owner of the café, said: "We are thrilled to have Paul join the Barista Boho team as our new head chef. His passion for cooking and his commitment to using only the best ingredients aligns perfectly with our values.

"We are excited for our customers to try the new menu items and taste the difference." Boho is open daily from 8am (9am Sunday) until 5pm (10pm Friday and Saturday). For more information, see its website or Facebook page here.
