North Korea Continues Weapons Testing Amid Diplomatic Standstill

North Korea tests submarine-launched cruise missiles, KCNA says

North Korea fired a ballistic missile towards its eastern waters on Monday, as confirmed by South Korea's military. The launch, which occurred on Monday, is part of a recent series of weapons launches by North Korea. However, specific details about the distance the missile traveled were not provided by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In recent months, North Korea has been actively conducting weapons testing to enhance its military capabilities amidst stalled diplomatic relations with the United States and South Korea. Over the weekend, North Korea announced successful tests of a 'super-large' cruise missile warhead and a new anti-aircraft missile in a western coastal area.

There have been speculations among experts that North Korea might engage in major provocations, such as a banned satellite launch, to coincide with significant state anniversaries in April. These include the birthday of state founder Kim Il Sung on April 15 and the founding anniversary of a predecessor of the North's military on April 25.

South Korea's military has reported evidence indicating that North Korea is preparing for its second spy satellite launch. However, there are currently no signs suggesting an imminent launch.
