NHL refs missed a blatant high sticking penalty before Hurricanes OT Game 2 winner

The officials working the New York Islanders’ overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes may want this one back.

In overtime of Game 2 of their 2023 NHL playoffs first-round series, it was right before Jesper Fast buried the game-winner for the Canes that refs totally missed a high stick to the face of the Isles’ Scott Mayfield, who went down after the blade from Jordan Marinook hit him.

But play went on and Fast scored, and now Islanders fans aren’t happy. Rightfully so! You can get any more blatant of a high stick than that!
