NFL draft position rankings: Where is Georgia DB Tykee Smith?

Georgia football is expected to have around 10 players selected in the 2024 NFL draft in April, adding to an NFL record of 25 total picks over the last two seasons.

At the top of the list are tight end Brock Bowers and offensive tackle Amarius Mims, both projected as first-round picks. Secondary defenders Kamari Lassiter and Javon Bullard will likely hear their names in the first couple of rounds.

A Bulldog that may be overlooked is defensive back Tykee Smith, who is coming off of a career season at Georgia. He transferred to Athens from West Virginia in 2021 after two All-American seasons as a Mountaineer.

ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. updated his position rankings this week, including Smith at No. 7 among safety prospects. Bullard came in at No. 4.

Smith (5-foot-10, 205 pounds) doesn’t standout in stature, but he made his presence felt all season, leading the team in tackles (70), tackles for loss (8.5) and interceptions (4). He also added two sacks, two pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.

Smith’s stellar season didn’t go unnoticed, as he earned second-team All-American honors from CBS and was named to the Coaches All-SEC second-team. The 2024 NFL draft will be held from April 25-27 in Detroit, Michigan.
