FEUD is fancied to win the argument in the Jill Wilcox-Jones Memorial Handicap (6.40) at Haydock today.
Ralph Beckett’s son of Dubawi didn’t shine when making his handicap debut over a mile and a quarter at Redcar at the beginning of May, returning fifth of eight behind Coverdale.
But there was more to like about his fourth to Mighty River over the same trip at Newmarket two weeks ago - and with the promise of better to come.
Feud began to feel the pinch with two furlongs to run but came home strongly to be beaten two and a half lengths by the winner.
The evidence of that effort, and Feud’s pedigree, is that this first attempt at a mile and a half will trigger a personal best and, if it does, a British Horseracing Authority mark of 77 looks there for the taking.
At Doncaster, HIYA MAITE can make it three wins from his last four runs by beating seven opponents for the Samantha Glendinning Takepayments Handicap (4.05).
The Roy Bowring-saddled son of Heeraat, successful at Wetherby at the end of April, followed a third at Thirsk with a one-length call at Beverley last time out and gets the vote to defy a 4lb rise in the weights.
