Netflix viewers turn off 'utterly stupid' new thriller over 'ridiculous' plot twist

Inside Man, a BBC drama that's recently been added to Netflix, has left many viewers grabbing at their remote control to 'switch off' because of 'ridiculous' storylines. Created by Sherlock and Doctor Who writer, Steven Moffat, Inside Man is a four-part thriller which surrounds a prisoner on death row in the US.

The inmate is played by Stanley Tucci, while David Tennant is a vicar in a 'quiet English town' and Dolly Wells plays a maths teacher trapped inside a cellar. While seemingly all unrelated, the characters cross paths in the "most unexpected way", the BBC wrote on its initial release.

Describing his role in Inside Man, Tennant told the BBC: "From my character's point of view, it's a story about a man who, in pursuit of doing the right thing, makes a series of catastrophically bad decisions". The series has some incredible twists and turns, but seems to have annoyed viewers who have taken to Twitter to complain after watching.

OlanMcGowan wrote: "32 minutes into this series on Netflix called Inside Man. The plot has just taken a direction so utterly stupid, I'm inclined to stop right here. On the other hand, Stanley Tucci is in it. Any advice? If you've watched it, you'll be aware of the RIDICULOUS turn I'm referring to."

Mridout196 agreed: "I rarely stop watching a TV show half way through but that new Netflix series 'Inside Man'. The most ludicrous story line you could ever think of."

Cptnbeatrush said: "Trying to watch Inside Man on Netflix and it's so so painful. I can't stand shows where the characters make consistently bad choices that don't make any sense. It's too bad because I love David Tenant and Stanley Tucci."

However, not everyone was in agreement. Eoinyk typed: "The Inside Man starring Stanley Tucci now on Netflix is a bit of fun." While IamToyin_a said: "Inside Man on Netflix is actually really gooooooood."

Will there be a series two?

The BBC thriller came to a dramatic conclusion at the end of 2022. And a second series is yet to be officially confirmed.

In an interview with the Radio Times, show creator Moffat said: "The story will end in four episodes. It's done by the end of that. As to whether or not you could ever spin off anything or do any kind of sequel? I don't know at this moment."
