Stranger Things became a global phenomenon after it landed on Netflix back in 2016, with stars such as Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard returning for the final season which is due to start filming later this year.
Following the success of the supernatural drama, the streaming giant has now delighted fans with the news that a spin-off show has been given the green light with the animation spearheaded by Eric Robles, known for his work on Random! Cartoons, Fanboy & Chum, and Glitch Techs.
The original Stranger Things creators and showrunner brothers Matt and Ross Duffer have since released a statement giving an insight into the new project which has sent fans of the show into a frenzy.
They said: "We've always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling.
"We couldn't be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can't wait to share more with you! The adventure continues…"
The news comes after Netflix also announced a live-action Stranger Things stage show last year, as well as a sequel according to reports in the Express.
Sadly fans will be left on tenterhooks as there is currently no further information on when the series will air or what the plot will detail, but the creators did reveal they didn't want the focus on fan-favourites Eleven [Millie Bobby Brown] or Steve Harrington [Jo Keery].
Previously commenting on the upcoming projects, Matt revealed: "The reason we haven't done anything is just that you don't want to be doing it for the wrong reasons, and it was just like, 'Is this something I would want to make regardless of it being related to Stranger Things or not?' And definitely.
"Even if we took the Stranger Things title off of it, I'm so excited about it. But it is not… It's going to be different than what anyone is expecting, including Netflix."
