Motherwell wing-back Brodie Spencer recalled by parent club Huddersfield

Motherwell have lost Brodie Spencer after the wing-back was recalled from his season-long loan spell by Huddersfield.

The 19-year-old made 20 appearances and his early-season performances saw him play several internationals for Northern Ireland, although his form dipped in recent weeks.

“The loan market has been important in our recruitment this season and Brodie’s has been a very successful one for both player and club,” manager Stuart Kettlewell told Motherwell’s website.

“We’re, of course, disappointed to lose Brodie earlier than initially anticipated but fully understand the decision made by Huddersfield.

“Brodie made a real impact in his time here and gained valuable game time and experience, which has got him back into the Northern Ireland setup also.

“I want to thank Huddersfield for their co-operation and sincerely wish Brodie the very best for the rest of the season.”

Spencer thanked Motherwell for their help and support.

He added: “It’s been such a great experience and I believe I’m a better player for my time up in Scotland. I wish the club, the supporters and everyone involved all the best for the future.”

Huddersfield sporting director Mark Cartwright explained his club’s decision.

“We’ve watched Brodie closely during the first half of the season and his loan has achieved everything we wanted it to,” he said on Town’s official website.

“He’s established himself in the team in the top league in Scotland, has played in big games and will have learned so much from the experience.

“He now returns to us a better all-round player and adds to our defensive options for the second half of the season.”
