Miriam Margolyes Declines £500,000 Marvel Role Over Salary Dispute

Miriam Margolyes on why she turned down 500K role to star in Marvel series

Miriam Margolyes, the renowned actor known for her iconic responses, recently made headlines for declining a £500,000 offer to star in a Marvel show. The opportunity was to play a witch in the new TV series Agatha, a spin-off of the popular TV miniseries WandaVision. Margolyes, famous for her role as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter franchise, shared details of her decision in her memoir 'Oh Miriam! Stories from an Extraordinary Life'.

She revealed that she turned down the role due to not receiving the £1 million salary she requested. Margolyes expressed her reluctance to take on another witch role, stating, 'I’ve done that with Harry Potter.' Additionally, she cited her dislike for filming in America, particularly in Georgia, as a reason for declining the offer.

In a recent interview, Margolyes explained, 'I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months.' When the production offered her £500,000 instead of her requested amount, she stood firm on her demand for a million pounds, leading to the offer being rescinded.

Reflecting on her decision, Margolyes admitted, 'Really it’s a story about my own greed rather than anything else.' This isn't the first TV opportunity she has turned down, as she previously declined an offer to appear on the reality series 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!' due to her personal standards.

Recently, Margolyes also made waves for her candid remarks about Harry Potter fans, urging them to 'f*****g grow up.' She expressed concern over fans who remain fixated on the franchise, emphasizing that it is intended for children. Margolyes humorously questioned the choices of fans who plan Harry Potter-themed weddings, suggesting they should move on from their childhood obsessions.

With her bold and unapologetic personality, Miriam Margolyes continues to captivate audiences with her candid commentary and refusal to conform to expectations in the entertainment industry.
