Michelle Keegan to star in new Harlan Coben Netflix adaptation, with Richard Armitage and Joanna Lumley

Michelle Keegan will star in an exciting upcoming eight-part Netflix miniseries, which is being adapted from 2016 Harlan Coben novel, Fool Me Once.

The Coronation star will play the lead role in the upcoming drama, alongside a cast that includes Richard Armitage, Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood) and Joanna Lumley.

Keegan shared the news on her Instagram, saying, “Finally the secrets out!! Im over the moon to be joining the cast of FOOL ME ONCE, a @netflixuk thriller based on the book by the extremely talented @harlancoben. Here we gooooo …”

Fool Me Once tells the nail-biting story of a family devastated by two murders. A former special agent, Maya (played by Keegan), is shocked when she thinks she sees her murdered husband Joe (Armitage) on her nanny cam.

Meanwhile, her niece and nephew, Abby and Daniel, are trying to get to the bottom of what happened to their own mother who was also murdered some months earlier.

Akhtar plays Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce, and Lumley plays Joe’s protective mother.

Emmett J. Scanlan (The Tower), Dino Fetscher (Humans), Marcus Garvey (Broadchurch), Hattie Morahan (The Golden Compass), James Northcote (The Imitation Game), Dänya Griver (Malory Towers), Daniel Burt (A Very British Scandal), Adelle Leonce (Black Mirror) and Natalia Kostrzewa (Calling Home) are also set to have roles.

Award-winning American writer Coben has written more than 30 best-selling novels, and this will be his 8th on-screen adaptation with Netflix. Past adaptations include The Stranger, The Woods, The Innocent, Gone for Good, Stay Close and Hold Tight.

Coben said: “I’m thrilled and honoured to once again be collaborating with my uber-talented partners Danny, Nicola and Richard. Fool Me Once is a pulse-pounder -- a shocking story of how secrets and deceit have the power to bring people together while simultaneously tearing them apart. I can’t wait to see how this dream cast brings these characters to life.”

Although Coben’s work is usually set in the US, Fool Me Once will be resituated for Netflix in the UK. Filming has already begun in Manchester and around the northwest.

The series will be directed by David Moore, whose past credits include Outlander and The Last Kingdom, and Nimer Rashed, who previously worked on The Good Karma Hospital and EastEnders. Jessica Taylor, who most recently worked on the BBC hit-drama Happy Valley, is onboard as producer.

Lead Writer Danny Brocklehurst, who previously wrote Brassic, said: “Harlan’s books are storytelling genius and it’s great to be entrusted once more in bringing his gripping stories of life. As always with our thrillers, expect twist upon twist and an emotional roller-coaster. Plus, the cast is phenomenal – audiences are in for a treat!”
