Michael Keaton Returns As Beetlejuice In Long-Awaited Sequel Announcement

Beetlejuice

Michael Keaton's highly anticipated return as Beetlejuice has been unveiled, showcasing the actor in his ghoulish glory reminiscent of his iconic role from 1988. Entertainment Weekly has released a new image featuring Keaton back in character as Beetlejuice, alongside Winona Ryder's reprisal of Lydia Deetz and Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Lydia's daughter.

The plot of the upcoming sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, directed by Tim Burton, is set decades after the original film and kicks off with a family tragedy that sets the narrative in motion. Burton expressed his awe at seeing Keaton seamlessly slip back into the character, describing it as a surreal experience.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice serves as a sequel to the 1988 classic, introducing audiences to the Maitlands, played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, who haunt their home after their untimely demise. Their attempts to scare off the Deetz family, portrayed by Catherine O'Hara, Jeffrey Jones, and Winona Ryder, attract the mischievous Beetlejuice, played by Keaton.

Tim Burton has long harbored the desire to create a Beetlejuice sequel, exploring various concepts with Keaton over the years, including ideas like Beetlejuice Goes to Hawaii and Beetlejuice Goes West. The duo waited for the right moment and concept that resonated emotionally before moving forward with the project.

Directed by Tim Burton and penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice features a star-studded cast including Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, and Willem Dafoe.

Warner Bros. Pictures is set to release Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in theaters on September 6, 2024, promising fans a long-awaited continuation of the beloved supernatural tale.
