BBC's Mark Wright spends night in haunted Northumberland castle for family holiday series

Mark Wright and his family had an experience to remember as they spent the night in a Northumberland castle, which has long been regarded one of, if not the most haunted in the country.

Former TOWIE original Mark, who went onto finish second on I'm A Celebrity, has joined forces with younger brother Josh and his dad Mark Snr, for BBC series A Wright Family Holiday. The programme launched earlier this month, with the trio's first port of call being Snowdonia, as they had an adventure in a slate mine; before moving onto Lincolnshire for a trip to Skegness.

The third episode aired on BBC One on Thursday night and saw TV presenter Mark, his dad and brother take a road trip to the North East, with Mark Snr particularly excited about his new surroundings, as he tried to give his sons a history lesson on the Romans and Viking invasion.

Their visit to Northumberland kicked off with some quad biking at site just 1.5 miles from Hadrian's Wall, before they drove into the grounds of Chillingham Castle, a landmark famous for its ghostly goings on and late night scary tours. As they approached the castle, Mark commented: "I'm far from over the moon about sleeping over here tonight," before asking his dad: "Why have you chosen this?!

The Wrights were greeted by owner of Chillingham Castle, Sir Humphry Wakefield, before settling down for the night, with Mark and Josh then playing a prank on their sleeping dad, by throwing towels at him as he lay in bed.

After surviving a night at Chillingham, without seeing any ghosts, the family headed out to the coast to do some coasteering, with Mark discovering he had a bit of a phobia of heights, as he was tasked with leaping off a cliff edge into the North Sea below. And their reward for their daring exploits was lunch at The Northumberland Arms in Felton, where Mark, Josh and their dad ticked into traditional North East dish, Pan Haggerty, with them all giving the hearty mix of potato, cheese and onion a glowing review.
