Mark Ruffalo's hopes for a solo Hulk movie unlikely to happen

Mark Ruffalo unlikely to get a solo Hulk movie in the MCU.

In a recent update from Mark Ruffalo, the beloved actor behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Hulk, it appears that hopes for a solo Hulk movie may be dashed. Despite persistent rumors of a World War Hulk storyline, Ruffalo shared his disappointment at the unlikelihood of his character getting his own standalone film.

During his appearance at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, Ruffalo was asked about the status of his character and shed light on the matter. According to him, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige asked Ruffalo what he would do if given a standalone Hulk movie. Ruffalo expressed his desire to explore the transformation of Hulk from a raging monster to a more integrated character. However, Feige responded by proposing to develop this character arc over the course of four movies, effectively eliminating the possibility of a standalone Hulk film.

Ruffalo stated, 'I don't mean to burst your bubble, but that's just not going to happen.' While it may disappoint fans longing for Hulk to take the spotlight, there are still avenues for the character's involvement in upcoming stories.

The Marvel Studios team has always been adept at incorporating significant comic book storylines into their cohesive cinematic universe. Although the MCU appears to be branching out into more mature and grounded narratives, such as with the upcoming Echo and Daredevil: Born Again projects, this doesn't mean they won't continue drawing inspiration from various comic book arcs.

While a dedicated World War Hulk movie seems unlikely, there remains a possibility that elements of that story could be integrated into future films. Speculation surrounding Chris Hemsworth's potential departure as Thor has fueled rumors that Hulk may be given a prominent role. Ruffalo himself has shown no intention of parting ways with Bruce Banner, hinting at a significant storyline for the character in the future. This could be in the form of appearances in other characters' movies, similar to his memorable role in Thor: Ragnarok.

In the ever-evolving and interconnected world of the MCU, the possibility of a solo Hulk movie may be diminishing. However, there is still reason to be excited about how the character will continue to evolve and be woven into upcoming narratives. Marvel Studios has consistently delivered thrilling storylines and surprises, so fans can rest assured that Hulk will find his place in the ever-expanding Marvel universe, even if it isn't in a standalone film.
