The vehicle then collided with another vehicle before driving off from the scene.

Officers later found the vehicle in the Swalwell area and recovered a quantity of drugs, with officers now hunting the occupants of the vehicle.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Just after 8am yesterday (Thursday), police were alerted to a suspicious vehicle travelling in the North Shields area.

“The vehicle failed to stop when instructed by police, and with the support of the National Police Air Service (NPAS), officers were able to track its movements as it travelled towards the Claremont Road area of Newcastle.

“The occupant then left a junction and collided with another vehicle, before driving off from the scene. Thankfully the member of the public was not seriously injured.

“Officers later found the offending vehicle left abandoned in the Swalwell area. A quantity of drugs were seized and enquiries are ongoing to locate the occupants.”
