Man dies following early-morning smash in Paisley town centre

A man has died following a car crash in Paisley town centre this morning.

A segment of Old Sneddon Street was sealed off to traffic by police in the aftermath of the smash which occurred around 6.15am.

The 59-year-old driver was taken from the vehicle and rushed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance crews.

But sadly, he was pronounced dead a short while later. Police say that only one vehicle was involved in the incident, which the deceased was driving.

Officers are investigating the circumstances which led to the crash. The road has since been reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.15am on Wednesday, December 28, police were called to a report of a road crash involving one car on Old Sneddon Street, Paisley.

“The 59-year-old driver was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash.”
