Madrasa run by mufti with Ansarul Islam link demolished

The authorities in central Assam’s Morigaon district on Thursday, demolished a madrasa that was being run by a mufti, allegedly with links to Ansarul Islam, a banned Bangladesh-based terror outfit.

The Jamatul Madrasa in Moirabari was sealed a few days ago after Mustafa, the mufti was arrested with 10 others from across Assam. Police said they were linked to five terror modules busted since March, this year.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the madrasa was demolished under the Disaster Management Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, as it was set up without permission from either the local panchayat or the district administration.

Power connection illegal

The power connection of the madrasa was also found to be illegal. “The district administration ordered the demolition after observing all the legal formalities,” he said.

Mustafa, the Chief Minister said, was educated in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and had obtained a doctorate in Islamic law from Madhya Pradesh. He was running the madrasa as the hub for financial and fundamentalist activities, he added.
