Love Island clears up confusing twist after backlash as fans threaten Ofcom complaints

Love Island 2023 faced yet more Ofcom complaints this week, according to viewers, after a new twist on Wednesday night.

The show finally cleared up any confusion surrounding the latest dumping ahead of Thursday's episode, after having fans believe that all of the Islanders were at risk of being eliminated.

Wednesday night saw Olivia and Maxwell booted out of the villa by fans, as host Maya Jama revealed the public vote result.

But there was a second twist on the way, as Maya confirmed it was now up to Olivia and Maxwell to send two more Islanders home.

It wasn't confirmed if it would be a girl and a boy they had to decide on, or if they had to choose a couple.

Viewers believed the pair had to choose between the three other vulnerable couples, including Claudia, Keanan, Rosie, Casey, Tanya and Shaq.

But a post on Love Island's Instagram appeared to reveal this was not the case, as they shared images of all of the remaining Islanders - and not just the ones with the lowest votes.

Clearly a blunder on their part or at least a means of sending viewers into meltdown, it certainly backfired when fans began slamming the show and fearing the worst for their favourite couples.

Many tweeted that they were going to complain to Ofcom over the twist too, with one writing: "I’ve done my annual ofcom complaint."

Another fan agreed: "honestly if it turns out Olivia can chose any couple to be dumped then guarantee I’ll be making a phone call to ofcom because she’s obviously gonna be biased and choose Kai which is proper taking the p**s out of the public what’s the point of our vote then."

A third viewer said: "I’m contacting ofcom, liv gets to choose whoever she wants to be sent home? Why the f**k did we vote," as a fourth wrote: "I really hope Olivia can only pick between the bottom couples because if she even looks in Kai’s direction I’m writing to Ofcom."

While leaving viewers hanging for hours afterwards with no explanation, the show finally cleared up the twist just hours before the next episode.

They finally admitted it was only the three vulnerable couples that still faced being axed, meaning those already saved by the public would not be going home.

Olivia and Maxwell must choose one girl and one boy from the three remaining vulnerable couples, therefore leaving Tanya, Shaq, Claudia, Keanan, Casey and Rosie all at risk.

Love Island airs every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
