Louis Walsh gives his verdict on reign of 'invisible' ex-RTE boss Dee Forbes: 'I'm not a fan'

RTE needs to make radical changes to the Late Late Show if they want it to survive, Louis Walsh claimed last night.

The music and TV legend felt the station was right not to scrap it but said new host Patrick Kielty has a big job on his hands to turn it around.

Louis said: "The Late Late had got far too predictable under Ryan Tubridy and became too stale. You knew in advance everyone who was on it and it was the same boring format every time.

"Under Gay Byrne you never knew what guests were on or what they were going to talk about. They need to go back to that.

"He also didn't have a stream of RTE people plugging the latest chapters in their careers. It all became so boring and people were switching off.

"I believe RTE was right not to scrap the Late Late when Ryan quit. However, radical changes will have to be made if they want to make it work going forward."

The former ITV X-Factor Judge and boyband manager is not one bit surprised at the mess RTE currently finds itself in over the Ryan Tubridy pay scandal.

He revealed: "I am not a fan of Dee Forbes , the former Director General.

"There was little or no leadership in RTE during her time and it is frankly sad to see the mess our national broadcaster is in now. Let's be honest there are no Gay Byrne's , Pat Kennys or Gerry Ryans coming through. They have failed to cultivate new talent. It is the same old people all the time."

Louis' advice for Ryan Tubridy now is to ditch his agent Noel Kelly and to tell the public exactly what happened. He added; "Oireachtas TV has become the best show and there are loads more episodes to come with I suspect loads of new revelations.".
