Los Angeles Rams Sign Guard Jonah Jackson And Tight End Colby Parkinson

Los Angeles Rams (01)

Detroit Lions guard Jonah Jackson (73) is set to join the Los Angeles Rams, as reported by multiple sources. The official announcement of his signing is expected on Wednesday when NFL free agency begins. Jackson, who played for the Lions for the past four years, is believed to have secured a lucrative three-year, $51 million contract with $34 million guaranteed.

Additionally, tight end Colby Parkinson is poised to become a Ram, filling the gap left by Tyler Higbee's injury. Jackson's arrival will prompt changes in the Rams' offensive line, with him likely taking up the left guard position. This move allows last year's left guard, Steve Avila, to transition to center.

Avila, a standout from the Rams' 2023 draft, had a successful stint at TCU playing both center and guard. His experience at center will aid in his return to the position. The departure of center Coleman Shelton, who chose free agency, created the need for this reshuffle.

The Rams have been proactive in fortifying their offensive line to protect quarterback Matthew Stafford and create running lanes for Kyren Williams. Right guard Kevin Dotson recently signed a three-year, $48 million extension with a $32 million guarantee, leaving the Rams with $29 million in cap space after the deal.

Looking ahead, the Rams still need to address the left tackle position as Alaric Jackson is set to become a restricted free agent. The future of Joe Noteboom, who carries a significant cap hit, remains uncertain for the Rams.

Despite injuries that hampered his performance last season, Jonah Jackson brings Pro Bowl experience to the Rams, having earned the honor in 2021. On the other hand, Colby Parkinson, coming from the Seattle Seahawks, is expected to sign a three-year, $22.5 million deal with $15.5 million guaranteed, bolstering the Rams' tight end position.
