Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland to shut 53 more branches - see full list

Lloyds Banking Group is to shut another 53 bank branches in another blow for the UK high street.

The latest announcement means 21 Lloyds Bank, 15 Halifax and 17 Bank of Scotland sites will close for good between September this year and May 2024.

It comes on top of the 98 branches the banking group said will go this year - including 62 Lloyds, 32 Halifax and four Bank of Scotland sites.

The news of further closures will be disappointing news for those who depend on face-to-face banking support.

If you do need to visit a bank in person, Halifax customers are advised to check if a “community banker” - which use community venues once a bank has shut - is visiting your area.

However, these don’t offer cash or counter services - instead, you’ll need to visit a Post Office branch if you need to pay in cash and cheques, make withdrawals and check your balance.

Lloyds customers should check if they have a “mobile branch” service available near them - these are normally set up on specific dates and times each month.

Lloyds and Bank of Scotland customers can also use the Post Office for cash and counter services.

A spokesperson for the banking group told The Mirror the use of these 53 branches has fallen by an average of 55% in the last five years.

The spokesperson said: "Our customers are increasingly using digital channels to manage their money – we now have over 20 million customers choosing to bank online.

"Alongside our digital and mobile banking options, we’re introducing more Community Bankers to provide face to face banking support in communities.

"Customers can also bank with us over the phone, through the Post Office or in a Banking Hub. All colleagues at these branches will be offered a role at another branch or elsewhere in our business."

But Lloyds isn't the only banking giant to have announced closures this year.

HSBC has said it will shutter at least 114 banks, NatWest has 106 scheduled to shut their doors and Barclays will shut 122 sites.

Santander will close five, Nationwide will close two and TSB has so far announced it will shut nine sites, while Virgin Money is set to shut just one and RBS is closing two.

Last month, the Mirror published an interactive tool which shows you all the bank branches that are closing near you.
