Lily Allen reveals Met Gala snub as she pays emotional tribute to Karl Lagerfeld

Lily Allen is missing this year's Met Gala, but she has still paid her own tribute to late fashion designer Karl Lagerfield.

The swanky New York do is set to take place this evening, with the Hollywood and fashion elite honouring Chanel's late creative director, with guests under strict instructions “to wear an archival look from one of the labels Lagerfeld led”.

However one celebrity not walking the red carpet is singer and actress Lily, 37, but she has paid tribute to Karl, who died aged 85 in 2019.

Lily shared a selection of sweet photos with herself and Karl, including the pair embracing and walking the red carpet together.

Writing in the caption, Lily said: "Not in NY and also NFI but still feels like as good a day as any for a Karl appreciation post. Here’s to The best to ever do it. miss him so much. X"

NFI can stand for 'not f***ing invited' or 'not f***ing interested' in UK slang.

Lily joined the throng of stars paying tribute to Lagerfeld following news of his death, as she thanked him for treating her ‘like a princess.’

The Smile singer was a regular face on the Chanel front row and once fronted a campaign for the brand.

After Karl's death three years ago, Lily said: “You made me feel like a princess.

"I never quite understood what you saw in me but I am forever grateful for the support that you and Chanel have given me over the last 15 years.

"Rest In Peace Karl, you were a true genius and will be missed, so much.”

The iconic designer will be honoured tonight at the fashion event of year, the opening of New York's Costume Institute's Annual Fashion Exhibition.

Guests will be able to choose from his vast archives at Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Balmain, Patou and his eponymous brand.

Vogue unveiled the 2023 theme in September last year with a special announcement by Pharrell Williams.

Oscar-winning actress Penelope Cruz, Emmy-winning writer Michaela Coel, tennis superstar Roger Federer and Grammy-winner Dua Lipa will co-chair the event.

Vogue's editor Anna Wintour will be running the event as usual.

Past themes for the fundraising event include In America: An Anthology of Fashion, Camp: Notes on Fashion and Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, which saw some of the best fan reactions.

Kim Kardashian stunned at last year's Met Gala as she showed up on the red carpet wearing Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress.

However, there had been speculation that the reality star wouldn't be returning amid reports her family were cut from the guestlist.

Luckily, an insider put the rumours to bed and insisted Kim has been put on the guestlist.

Speaking about the rumours to the US Sun, the source said: "It's been embarrassing for everyone involved but Kim is still excited and has already been working with a top fashion house to design a custom look for the night."
