Lexington health department hosting bivalent COVID booster clinic

Registration is now open for a COVID booster clinic in central Kentucky. The Lexington Fayette County Health Department is offering the new Moderna bivalent booster at a mass vaccination event this Thursday.

Kevin Hall is spokesman for the health department. He said registration is required and spots are filling up.

“So it is very unlikely that we’ll be able to do walk-ins on Thursday. So its really important, right now, go ahead, sign up, get your appointment reserved. Come see us on the 29th at Consolidated Baptist Church,” said Hall.

Hall said this will likely be the last large vaccination event they have.

“But starting Monday, October 3rd, appointments will be available by same day appointment in our public health clinic by calling 859-288-2483 to be able to get an appointment every Monday, Wednesday or Thursday,” said Hall.

The Moderna booster protects from COVID-19 and the Omicron variant. Hall compared the boosters to an annual flu shot.

The Moderna booster is only available to people 18 or older who were last vaccinated two or more months ago.

This Thursday’s clinic is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Consolidated Baptist Church on Russell Cave Road in Lexington.

People can register at lfchd.org/vaccine.
