Leeds United transfer target likened to Edgar Davids is a player Thierry Henry knows all about

Leeds United transfer target Han-Noah Massengo has been likened to former Dutch star Edgar Davids by one pundit who has seen his displays in France last season. The 22-year-old is out of contract having left Bristol City.

He spent the second half of the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Ligue 1 side Auxerre, but was unable to help them secure their top-flight status, making 15 appearances. Defeat on the final day at home to Lens saw them finish in the final relegation spot.

His performances have been impressive. There was one moment in particular that saw him catch the eye during a 2-1 win over Lyon.

Massengo earned his side a penalty having dribbled into the 18-yard box at pace after collecting the ball just inside the visitors' half. Pundits and former players have been quick to praise him and former PSG and West Ham midfielder Edouard Cisse even went as far as to say he reminds him of the former Juventus and Ajax star Davids.

Speaking on Amazon Prime’s coverage, Cisse said: "I didn’t know him (before) but I saw him on Friday and he was very impressive and eye-catching and he made a lot of good tackles.

“He is tough. In duels he is forceful and not afraid to show himself in midfield. He reminds me a bit of Edgar Davids."

In the studio that night was Thierry Henry. The former Arsenal and Barcelona World Cup winner knows all about Massengo. He handed him his professional debut when coach of Monaco in 2018 and has naturally followed his career since.

Henry replied jokingly: "Wow, a comparison to Edgard Davids. He has a long way to go. Han-Noah, good luck!”

Although Massengo is out of contract, he is not a 'free' agent as the player is likely to command compensation with him being under the age of 24, should Leeds United wish to follow up on their reported interest.
