Leeds United panned for Daniel James transfer move as new condition emerges over 'frightening' star's future

Former England winger-turned-talkSPORT pundit Trevor Sinclair has panned Leeds United's transfer decision to loan out Wales star Daniel James this season.

Winger James was deemed surplus to requirements at Elland Road last summer and was sent to Fulham for the campaign.

Leeds and the Cottagers have endured differing seasons this term, with the Whites battling relegation and still very much in the mire, while the west Londoners have thrived under the tutelage of Marco Silva, sitting in a healthy 10th place in the Premier League.

James hasn't exactly been a regular at Craven Cottage, mainly getting game-time from the bench, but Sinclair feels he has the skillset Leeds have lacked in their battle against the drop.

“Look at the players they have let go. Look at Dan James," Sinclair said on talkSPORT.

“I think Dan James has done excellent for Fulham.

"Sitting back, hitting on the counter attack; he’s got that pace and it is frightening pace that he’s got.

“They could use someone like that now because they really do need that pace on the counter attack.”

Sam Allardyce has been parachuted in at Leeds to help save the club from demotion to the Championship; he has a short-term deal until the end of the season, although we already know the veteran manager is a fan of the former Swansea City man, having tried to sign him when he was in charge at West Brom and James was on the fringes at Manchester United.

Football Insider report Fulham could yet look to sign James on a permanent deal this summer, should Andreas Pereira's serious ankle injury be confirmed.

The same publication state Leeds would be "happy" to part with James should they be relegated.

James, 25, has made seven league starts for Fulham and made 16 appearances from the bench. He has another three years left to run on his Elland Road contract.
