The Kansas City Chiefs apparently had one big goal they wanted to accomplish on defense: limit the San Francisco 49ers run game and make quarterback Brock Purdy throw the ball to win.
While speaking with The Ringer’s Steven Ruiz, Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed talked a bit about the Kansas City defensive game plan and if it was meant to primarily slow down Christian McCaffrey and the San Francisco rushing attack.
To Sneed, that was the goal because the Chiefs wanted to put the game in Purdy’s hands and make him win with his arm.
Judging by the final score, it looks like Kansas City made the right call.

Purdy has established himself as a good quarterback for the 49ers, one good enough to lead his team to a Super Bowl.
However, he’s not at the point in his career just yet where he can just win a game with his passing abilities alone.
It sure sounds like Sneed and the Chiefs got the kind of game they wanted since it’d be Patrick Mahomes who made the plays with his arm, not Purdy, to win this year’s Super Bowl.
