Kirsten Dunst Reflects On Iconic 'Spider-Man' Kiss With Tobey Maguire

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse-FanArt

Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire shared an iconic movie kiss in the 2002 film 'Spider-Man,' but the behind-the-scenes details reveal a less-than-ideal experience. Dunst recently reminisced about the challenging shoot on 'The Jonathan Ross Show,' recalling how filming the rain-soaked upside-down kiss with Maguire was 'kind of miserable.' Despite director Sam Raimi's efforts to make the scene special, the harsh conditions made it a tough moment for both actors. Dunst portrayed Mary Jane Watson opposite Maguire's Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the blockbuster, which spawned two successful sequels: 'Spider-Man 2' in 2004 and 'Spider-Man 3' in 2007.

In a recent interview with Marie Claire, Dunst reflected on her experiences on set, revealing that she didn't speak up when she was referred to as a 'girly-girl' during the 'Spider-Man' shoot. She expressed regret for not asserting herself at the time, noting that the industry culture made it challenging to address such comments. Despite the challenges, Dunst expressed openness to returning to the comic book world, citing financial reasons and her family responsibilities as motivating factors.

Meanwhile, Tobey Maguire reprised his Spider-Man role in the 2021 Marvel film 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' where he joined forces with Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield's versions of the character. Maguire has expressed enthusiasm for future opportunities to revisit the role, emphasizing his love for the character and the cinematic universe. Similarly, Dunst has indicated her willingness to portray Mary Jane again, envisioning a scenario where her character has aged and has children with Spider-Man.
