King Charles seen in public for the first time post-surgery

The Royal Family

King Charles is on the mend! After undergoing surgery for an enlarged prostate just a week ago, the 75-year-old monarch was spotted outside St. Mary Magdalene Church near Sandringham, England, greeting well-wishers with a cheery wave. It was the first time he had been seen since leaving the hospital last Monday.

Accompanied by his wife, Queen Camilla, the royal couple walked to Sunday services near their country home in Norfolk. They were also photographed with the Rev. Canon Dr. Paul Williams, the Rector of Sandringham, during this public appearance.

While King Charles has been mostly out of the public eye due to his medical condition, which was first disclosed in January, Queen Camilla has been actively fulfilling her royal engagements solo.

During this time, the king made another interesting announcement: he appointed a new assistant equerry named Capt. Kat Anderson, who is 33 years old. This is a significant development as Captain Anderson is the first woman to hold this key role, serving a British monarch. Her main responsibility will be assisting King Charles during his foreign trips.

Tomorrow holds a special significance for King Charles and the royal family as it marks the anniversary of the death of his grandfather, George VI. This momentous occasion used to be solemnly observed by the late Queen Elizabeth at Sandringham. It was on this estate in 1952 that George VI passed away, resulting in Queen Elizabeth assuming the throne. Nearly 70 years later, King Charles ascended to the throne upon Queen Elizabeth's passing at Balmoral Castle in Scotland in 2022.

While King Charles continues his recovery, another member of the royal family, Kate Middleton, is also recuperating from her scheduled abdominal surgery. Her operation took place at the same London hospital where her father-in-law underwent his procedure. Currently, Kate is at her Adelaide Cottage residence in Windsor, focusing on her recovery. The Princess of Wales hasn't made any public appearances since her surgery almost three weeks ago and is not expected to resume royal duties for another two months.
