Kind schoolgirls raise £3000 for charity base destroyed by fire

Two kind-hearted Armadale Academy pupils have raised £3000 to help restore a charity base destroyed by fire.

In March, the Armadale Shed was gutted following the fire and while thankfully nobody was hurt, the base contained expensive machinery and tools along with all the arts and crafts items that members had been working on.

Opened seven years ago, the Shed offered people and groups in the area a space to try new hobbies and socialise with its members creating beautiful handmade wood and metal furniture items over the year.

Moved by the loss of an important part of their local community, pupils Darcy Weatherby and Makenzie Lees set up a fundraising page in a bid to help out with the charity's efforts to get back up and running.

Academy teacher Mr. Haddad said: “Makenzie and Darcy helped create a video to highlight the school’s partnership with a place that is right at the heart of our community – The Armadale Shed.

“They left inspired and feeling more connected to the community after visiting and that is why it really broke their hearts to find out about the fire.

“There is nothing left and they decided to make a plea to the community to help restore and rebuild the Shed. It is a place that means a lot to Armadale and they will need all the help they can get to have it back.”

He added: “Makenzie and Darcy shared their idea to start this gofundmepage with their teachers and the school will create fundraising events to help.”

The girls commented: “There is nothing left of the Shed and we want to make a plea to you, the community, to help us build and restore the Shed.

“It is a place that means a lot to us and we need all the help we can get to have it back.”
