Khephren Thuram decision made as Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke 'in agreement' on Liverpool target

Liverpool are gearing up for the new season as the countdown continues for the return of the Premier League.

The Reds' new recruits, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, were given a first taste of life at the club yesterday having taken part in their opening group session at the AXA Training Centre.

Jurgen Klopp's side kick off their pre-season schedule with a game against Karlsruher next Wednesday (July 19) and will quickly gain an idea over the physical condition of first-team members.

Whether or not additional individuals will be brought to the club in the coming weeks remains to be seen, though it is clear supporters are keen for the squad to be bolstered.

Below is a round-up of the latest transfer rumours relating to the Reds.

Khephren Thuram decision

Khepren Thuram has reportedly decided to stay at Nice amid speculation over his future.

The French midfielder was of a player of interest to Liverpool, though it seems the 22-year-old will not be heading to Anfield in the coming weeks.

A report by L'Equipe has made clear Nice never wanted to sell Thuram and the Ligue 1 side are set to get their way after the player's choice to remain in his home country. This call has been met with "immense relief" by those in power and a new contract has even been discussed.

It is added it would take a "much higher" offer than his original €40m (£34m) to change their mind regarding selling their prized asset..

Micky van de Ven interest ended

Liverpool boss Klopp and the club's new sporting driector Jorg Schmadtke are understood to have jointly decided to abandon a move for Micky van de Ven.

The Wolfsburg defender has been heavily linked with the Reds in recent weeks, suggested as a possible option to operate as a left-sided centre-back in the heart of defence.

A deal for the Dutchman now appears unlikely to materialise, with Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung making clear interest in the youngster has "cooled noticeably". The report adds a consultation between Klopp and Schmadtke was held over the player and the pair came to the conclusion the player is not ready to represent the Reds due to a lack of "physical robustness."

Perr Schuurs move

Liverpool are said to be weighing up "a new move'" for Torino defender Perr Schuurs.

The 23-year-old centre-back has no shortage of suitors this summer and is believed to have attracted an offer worth £35m from Crystal Palace.

Remaining alert to the situation, though, Football Insider have stated the Reds have "set their sights" on making their interest in the defender known. Schuurs "would be interested" in joining Liverpool prior the transfer window closing, according to the above article.
