Khan Younis Residents Return Home To Devastation

Aftermath of Israeli strikes, in Khan Younis

Dozens of Khan Younis residents who were forcibly displaced to Rafah have made the emotional journey back to their homes, only to find them unrecognizable and destroyed.

A video captured by a source shows the heart-wrenching scene of people jumping over debris in search of their homes, with many expressing shock and disbelief at the extent of the damage.

Children like Aseel, aged 12, shared their sorrow as they pointed to piles of rubble that used to be their homes. Aseel lamented the loss of her belongings, saying, 'We were only able to retrieve small things from our house. I wish I could’ve gotten my clothes.'

Another child, Tamar, was seen carrying blocks of wood, intending to sell them to avoid having to beg for money. He expressed his disbelief at the devastation, stating, 'If it wasn’t for my neighbors, I wouldn’t have known it was my house. Devastation everywhere.'

Abdelkarim voiced his frustration and despair, questioning where they would get their belongings from and who they could turn to for help. He highlighted the impact on education, saying, 'How are we going to learn now? There’s no more life. Our childhood is gone. They destroyed us.'

Alia, accompanied by her younger brother, clutched onto a bag of clothes and a small toy, a precious memory from their now-destroyed home. She shared, 'Our house was bombed and bulldozed … this toy means a lot to me. It’s a memory from home.'

The return of these residents to Khan Younis serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by those affected by conflict, with many struggling to rebuild their lives amidst the destruction and loss they have endured.
