Kate Middleton colour co-ordinates with Duchess Sophie - in clash with Meghan's claim

Kate Middleton appeared to pour cold water over Meghan Markle's claim after colour co-ordinating with Sophie, The Duchess of Edinburgh.

The royal pair joined Prince William and Prince Edward this afternoon at a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

The Princess of Wales re-wore a light blue Ellie Saab skirt and matching top that she previously wore to the Royal Ascot four years ago.

Sophie also looked sensational in the same colour as their husbands put on a stylish display in waistcoated suits.

Their matching display, as part of the Coronation celebrations, appeared to fly in the face of what Meghan suggested last year.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed she adapted her wardrobe after marrying into The Firm during the first part of her Netflix series, Harry & Meghan.

“Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour," Meghan stated.

“There was thought in that. To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there's a group event, but then you also shouldn't be wearing the same colour as one of the other, more senior members of the family.

"So I was like...well, what's a colour they'll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White? So I wore a lot of muted tones but it was also so I could just blend in.

"I'm not trying to stand out here. There's no version of me joining this family and trying not to do everything I could to fit in," Meghan added.

She added: "I don't want to embarrass the family."

93-year-old woman told the Prince of Wales how she slept on the pavement for three nights to see his grandmother’s coronation during today's celebrations.

Dame Elizabeth Watts was one of thousands of guests at Buckingham Palace for a garden party on Tuesday where William and the Princess of Wales represented the King, alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.

Eight thousand people were welcomed into the grounds for the event, which celebrated the work of volunteers, military personnel and members of the public.

William and Kate were introduced to representatives from the Scouts, Maternal Mental Health Alliance and the South Wales Police, but he was soon ushered over to meet Dame Elizabeth, who has lived through the past three coronations.

Dame Elizabeth, of Solihull, told the PA news agency: “I came to Elizabeth’s coronation and slept on the pavement for three nights.

“I had measles for George’s coronation when I was seven years old. Of course, there was no television then so I couldn’t watch it but we had an accumulator radio.”

Speaking about Charles’s coronation, she said: “We watched the coronation at home, on Sunday we had a street party and on Monday I had to recuperate ready to come here.”

Dame Elizabeth added: “It means absolutely everything [to be at the garden party].

“I was so surprised, I was nominated by St John Ambulance Service because I’ve done 79 years of voluntary service and when I was invited I was just amazed.

“I can’t do events now but I’m still on some of their committees.

“I’ve done everything, I’m not being funny. I joined as a cadet then I ran a cadet division and since then I have been the deputy commissioner.”
