Jorge Soler Adds Power To San Francisco Giants Lineup

Soler, a power-hitting outfielder, signed a three-year deal with the Giants.

Jorge Soler, the power-hitting outfielder, has joined the San Francisco Giants, bringing a significant boost to their lineup. Soler, who recently turned 32, signed a lucrative three-year deal after spending the past two seasons with the Miami Marlins. The contract includes a $9 million signing bonus and a $7 million salary for 2024, followed by $13 million in each of the 2025 and 2026 seasons.

With Soler's addition, the Giants' estimated 2024 player payroll stands at $164 million, allowing room for further enhancements to their batting order. Notable free agents like Cody Bellinger, Adam Duvall, and J.D. Martinez are still available in the market.

Originally from Cuba, Soler made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs in 2014 at the age of 22. Known for his power potential, Soler has amassed 170 home runs and 452 RBIs in his career. Despite his impressive offensive stats, strikeouts have been a challenge for the 6-4, 235-pound slugger.

In his standout 2023 season with the Marlins, Soler hit 36 home runs and drove in 75 runs, earning his first All-Star selection. His most notable performance came in 2019 with the Kansas City Royals when he hit 48 home runs and recorded 117 RBIs. Soler was also named the World Series MVP in 2021 after leading the Atlanta Braves to victory.

Now, Soler is set to anchor the Giants' lineup, projected to hit cleanup and serve as the designated hitter. His presence is expected to elevate the performance of his teammates, potentially surpassing the team-high 23 homers hit by Wilmer Flores last season.

With Soler's addition alongside Jung Hoo Lee, the Giants have transformed into a more potent offensive force. Manager Bob Melvin's projected opening day lineup showcases the team's depth and potential for a strong offensive showing in the upcoming season.
