Jordan North makes I'm A Celebrity comparison as Burnley relegated after loss to Newcastle

Jordan North made a comparison to his time on I'm A Celebrity before defeat to Newcastle sealed his beloved Burnley's relegation from the Premier League on Sunday.

On his way to finishing second to Giovanna Fletcher on the ITV show at the end of 2020, Radio 1 host Jordan made no secret of his love for the Clarets, famously shouting "happy place, happy place," when he got scared during trials, before revealing to presenters Ant and Dec that his 'happy place' was Burnley's home ground of Turf Moor.

Like many Burnley fans, University of Sunderland graduate Jordan was full of nerves before his team took on Newcastle United at Turf Moor. To stay up, they had to match whatever result relegation rivals Leeds got away to Brentford. And, as he prepared to head to his 'happy place' for one, Jordan confessed he was so nervous he hadn't been able to eat, tweeting: "I’ve just tried to eat a slice of toast, got two bites in and I couldn’t stomach it. I’ve never known nerves like this before….and I’ve been in a coffin full of snakes. COME ON BURNLEY!!!!"

Rather than making life easy for their opponents, Newcastle were quick out of the traps as they bid to end their season on a high after an incredible turnaround under Eddie Howe. Magpies striker Callum Wilson netted twice to make it 0-2 and, although there was a nail-biting finish after Burnley pulled one back, the nail was banged into their relegation coffin after Leeds, having been pegged back to 1-1 by Brentford, snatched a last ditch winner to cement their place in the Premiership.

Defiant in defeat and in his love for Burnley, Jordan returned to Twitter a few hours after the final whistle, to post: "I'll always be a Claret. UTC." While some of his followers, including a few Leeds supporters took the opportunity to wind him up, other Burnley fans were quick to offer some kind words.

One responded: "Absolutely pal you simply cannot change because plan’s haven’t gone the way that you would of liked… it’s going against your character and who you are as a person it’s that simple.. it will always be our happy place… UTC," with a more diplomatic Leeds supporter replying: "I'm a Leeds fan, and not gonna lie as chuffed as I was with the scorelines my 2nd thought was 'ah poor Jordan' (not in a sarky way, a genuine I feel a bit bad kind of way) We know how sh*t it feels - I still remember the day Leeds went down & how gutting it was. You'll be back."
