Jason Day What's In The Bag? 2024 Update

Jason Day What's In The Bag?.

Jason Day What's In The Bag?

Jason Day played with TaylorMade clubs since mid-2006, and in the past he had the M3 and M6 in the bag. He also played the brand's M6 and SIM Max. However, he's now another player to test the free agent club market.

As well as carrying a mix of different brands, the Aussie star is wearing different clothing to what we've been used to seeing him in; he's parted ways with Nike and teamed up with Malbon Golf (more on that below).

Driver

Starting at the top of the bag, Day was using a Ping G425 LST driver for a while but at the moment he has a Ping G430 LST driver, 9° at 10°. The head itself is 440cc. Despite the more compact profile, Ping has done a good job of making this look inviting at address. It's a club that still offers a lot of forgiveness, and this particular model can be found on our list of the best golf drivers for mid handicappers.

Day uses a TPT Prototype shaft, one that has a low launch profile, which isn't surprising given how, in the past, the Australian has talked about trying to bring his ball flight down.

Fairway Woods

Next up, Day carries a 15° TaylorMade SIM Max three wood. “I use my three-wood a fair bit during a round,” Day has said. “I don’t view it as something that only gets used off the tee. I have some other options at the top of the bag, but I know what this club can do and don’t really see a need to change. Once I find a fairway wood I like, I tend to stick with it.”

That other option at the top end of the bag is a 21° TaylorMade Stealth, which is his seven-wood. Both fairways have a Mitsubishi Kuro Kage 80 X shaft. This club made made our editor's choice list in 2022 and was one of the best fairway woods at the time. As Day has alluded to, he's reluctant to chop and change for the sake of it.

Irons

At the moment, Day could very well turn up to his next tournament with a different set of irons, or a set of old favorites. It appears, for the time being at least, that he's playing with TaylorMade P760 irons (4-PW), which feature the True Temper Dynamic Gold X Seven shaft.

These were the irons that he had in the bag at the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open. In summary, the P760 is aimed at the single-figure golfer seeking a compact, players’ iron that provides extra help in the long irons and precision in the short irons with a soft, lively feel.

This set of irons is clearly an old favorite because we first tested these back in 2018. Most TaylorMade staffers would now be playing the P7MC, one of the best irons for low handicappers

Wedges

It will probably comes as no surprise to learn that Day has tinkered with his wedge set-up as well. He was using some Artisan Prototypes but these have been replaced with two Titleist Vokey SM10 wedges (52-08F and 56-10S), the 52° of which is fitted with a KBS Tour C-Taper 125 S+ shaft. Meanwhile, the 56° is fitted with a True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 shaft, as is his WedgeWorks (60-08A+). He has his wedges personalized with his initials.

The Titleist Vokey SM10 wedge feature a more centrally-placed CG, higher spin and lower launch than its predecessor, which was one of the very best golf wedges on the market. These subtle changes all enhance the predictability and control with this club.

Putter

The Australian seems to have been tinkering a lot with mallet putters over the last few years. He was regularly using a TaylorMade Spider Tour putter in both red and white, as well as an Odyssey 2-ball design and SIK Flo C-Series model. At the 2022 PGA Championship, he appeared to be using three models - the TaylorMade Itsy Bitsy Spider Limited, Odyssey Toulon Daytona Prototype, and Toulon Daytona Beach.

At the start of 2023, he was seen playing a Scotty Cameron mallet design with a black head, but during his win at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson he was using a TaylorMade Itsy Bitsy Spider Ghost putter. At the 2024 Farmers, he had his distinctive red and black TaylorMade Itsy Bitsy Spider Limited in the bag, with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet Cord grip.

Ball

Day's ball of choice is the Bridgestone Tour B X, a superb all-round performer that balances distance and a strong flight in the long game with excellent control and feel into and around the greens. He uses Mindset (see graphic on the ball above), a proprietary visual technology available on all four of the 2024 Tour B Series golf balls.

Apparel/Shoes

Some of the biggest changes Day has made gear-wise, concerns his shoes and clothing. When the 2015 PGA champion was with Nike, he wore the Nike Air Zoom victory Tour 3 shoes, a Rory McIlroy favorite. However, Day signed with Los Angeles-based clothing company Malbon Golf ahead of the 2024 PGA Tour season - and some of his new outfits have been attracting quite a lot of chat.

Day appears to have started the year wearing FootJoys, which feature the Malbon Golf logo on the side. In Hawaii in January, his choice of footwear was the FootJoy Traditions. However, you can probably expect to see the Australian mixing up his styles over the course of the season with some of the best FootJoy golf shoes
