Jane McDonald chokes up on BBC The One Show interview after losing both her mum and partner

Jane McDonald choked up on BBC's The One Show as she recalled losing both her mum and partner. The presenter and former Loose Women star was on the talk show on Thursday night (January 12).

She was there to promote her new travel programme on Channel 5. In the new series of Holidaying with Jane McDonald she heads off to Mexico and Cyprus.

Manchester Evening News reports a clip was shared of Jane releasing turtles on her show. She said: "I'm calling one Ed and one Jean," before sharing how she felt emotional by the experience.

When prompted to share the poignancy of the moment by host Ronan Keating, Jane shared: "I've just recently lost my partner and my mother at the same time." The star then choked up, adding: "Sorry my throat went there, always does when I talk about them."

Jane sadly lost her partner, Eddie Rothe, last March when he died from lung cancer. It came after the singer lost her mother in 2018. Continuing to speak about the special moment with the turtles, she added: "I just thought this is new life...You've got to think at the end of something comes something beautiful in new life. It was quite an emotional bit for me."

But the mood was soon lightened when Jane continued to chat about her show. However, she did end up having to shut down One Show co-host Alex Jones when she made the wrong assumption.

A clip was shown which saw Jane whizzing through the air on a zip wire in Las Vegas. "Well George," Alex said to Jane's fellow guest George Ezra. "Jane, she doesn't care, does she? She gets on the rollercoaster and here's what happened," she added before the clip played.

"It goes all the way through this massive mall in the old strip," Jane explained before Alex claimed: "It looks like it's going quite slow to be fair..." but Jane was quick to interject: "No it's not!" As Alex, George, Ronan and the crew burst out laughing, Jane added: "I just thought I'd get that in."

"No, it's going quite quickly that," she added as the clips continued to play. "Sorry about that, Jane," Ronan said before their guest added again: "Can you see my hair flowing in the background? That's because it's quite fast." As Ronan said it was a 'give away', Alex added: "Fair enough," and tried to move on.
