ITV The Chase's Bradley Walsh's regret as he wants 'mean' comment to get cut

Bradley Walsh was mortifed after a comment on today's edition of The Chase.

The 62-year-old presenter was back in the hosting seat for Tuesday's episode of the popular ITV game show. Alastair, Melanie, Gillian and Marc were testing their wits against Paul Sinha in a bid to win a cash prize.

Alastair was in seat one and earned an impressive £5,000 in the cash-builder. The 50-year-old publisher proceeded to navigate his way past The Sinnerman to book his spot in the Final Chase.

Melanie was next up and the trainee pharmacist hailed from Stoke-On-Trent. She later added she was originally from Portugal, which prompted Bradley to joke: "What are you doing in England? Are you mad?"

Melanie hoped to take her family on holiday to Florida with any potential winnings but put in an underwhelming performance as she earned £2,000 in the cash-builder.

Bradley defended her performance as he said: "Your general knowledge is OK, how long have you been in the UK?" However, he regretted his comment when Melanie said she had been in the UK for 17 years.

He added: "We'll leave that bit on the edit floor." Bradley asked Melanie if he she understood a Portuguese phrase, which translated to "it doesn't matter" before she took on the Chaser.

Paul teased Melanie ahead of the head-to-head and fans following the show on Twitter jumped to her defence.

Yan said: "Melanie is so lovely and sweet, they should be less mean to her"

Mr Chambers added: "Bradley’s surprised she’s from Portugal and can understand Portuguese!…"

Sally commented: "Brad's being patronising much earlier today"

Melanie did not make it to the Final Chase as she was swiftly eliminated by The Sinnerman in the head-to-head. Alastair was joined by Gillian in the last round and they built up up 16 steps as they aimed to take home the £9,000 cash prize.

However, they left empty-handed after they were caught with 35 seconds remaining.
