Love Island's ITV cliff-hanger sees villa rocked with couples under threat as another axed

Love Island ended in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night when a second couple faced the axed, right after Catherine and Elom were sent packing with immediate effect.

Twenty four hours earlier, viewers at home were asked to get to their phones and vote on the compatibility of the couples in the villa, unbeknown to the Islanders themselves. The first they heard of it was during an otherwise calm night on Love Island, with the couples opening up about their growing connections with one another.

A text came through revealing that fans had been casting their votes and that Catherine and Elom had finished bottom, with Catherine's close friend on the show, Whitney, then having to break the news that they would be leaving straight away. And, then, right after the dumped pair had walked out the door and the safe contestants thought they could rest easy, another text came through summoning them to their fire pit.

It was there that the three couples with the next least amount of votes were announced - as Kady and Ousy, Leah and Montel and Jess and Sammy learnt their fate. In the dying moments of the episode, the three at risk couples were ordered to stand in front of their co-stars, before credits rolled just as the noise made by the crucial text was heard, without revealing the result.

And the outcome was kept firmly under wraps, as a preview for Thursday's Love Island focused on the arrival of two more bombshells - Josh Bocllebank, 26, from Essex and Ella Barnes, 23, from Kent.
